Chairman - David Pendleton

Dr David Pendleton has been appointed as the new Chairman of the BWLA. David is a psychologist with a doctorate from Oxford University. He is Executive Chairman of the Edgecumbe Consulting Group in Bristol where he and his colleagues work to improve the quality of leadership and performance in both private sector (commercial) organisations and in the NHS. In this capacity he has worked recently with O2, Virgin Atlantic Airways, Norwich Union, Deloitte, Arqiva, British Airways, and a variety of organisations in Europe, Asia and the USA.

David is also an Associate Fellow of the Said Business School at Oxford University, where he directs programs in Executive Development, and an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of

General Practitioners. He has published four books for GPs and is currently writing a book on organizational leadership.

Perhaps more importantly, David has been lifting weights for personal strength and fitness for over 30 years. He is married with two grown up daughters and lives in Bristol. This is what he said about his appointment:

‘I delighted to have been appointed as Chairman of the BWLA.  I greatly admire anyone who is prepared to work hard to improve themselves in any walk of life, and I know the degree of personal sacrifice to which athletes go to perform at the highest level. I am greatly looking forward to helping BWLA advance the cause of increasing health and fitness through weight lifting, and also working closely with World Class Lifting to develop the nation’s weightlifting and paralympic powerlifting talent.’
