European U23 Championships

Peter set new British U23 records in the snatch and total. Britain's only other representative Helen Jewell, competed in the 58 kilo class and snatched 75 and 78 kg, but failed to make any of her clean and jerks.

British U23 and U18 Weightlifting Championships

These Championships will be held on Saturday, 31st October 2009 at the Kilwinning Weightlifting Club, 17c Caledonia House, Longford Avenue, Kilwinning, KA13 6EX. There are fifty nine entries which are posted under the British U23 and U18 Championships in the competition section. The Championship Programme which indicates the first weigh in at 08.30 am is also posted.

2010 National Weightlifing League

It is proposed to introduce the National Weightlifting League in 2010. The following was a proposal made in 2001 and the BWLA welcomes suggestions from clubs in order reintroduce the National League.
The BWLA National League will be run in four regions. These regions are as follows:-
• Northern Ireland and Scotland
• North West, Yorkshire & North East, and North Midlands
• Wales, West Midlands and South West
• South Midlands, East Midlands, Greater London and South East
Entry fee £35.00 — cheques payable to BWLA.

After each League match, competing teams must send the "original match protocol" forms, signed by the three referees, to the League Co-ordinator who  will be responsible for compilation of all the results.
Each team will compete in a minimum of two rounds and the best team from each region will compete in a League Final.
Each team will consist of four persons (male and/or female) and they must be current BWLA members. Membership cards MUST be checked at all League Matches. Teams can draft a team member from another club, but they cannot draft in unattached members. Lifters can only compete for one club during the running of the League for for any one year. There is no limit to the number of teams from any region.
Clubs can transport a "B" team with them to the competition and the "B" team will be allowed to lift "outside the competition" at the discretion of the organiser.
The competition rounds will be run and decided as follows:-
• The four team members will be weighed and their body weights added together.
• The team weighing the lightest will receive 2kgs allowance per 1 kg body weight difference.
• When the competition ends, the totals of each of the 4 team members will be added together. The allowance for the lighter team will be added to their total. The team with the highest combined total is the winner.
• The winning team receives 10 points, the second team 8 points, the third team 6 points.
Teams competing with fewer than 4 lifters will be penalised as follows:-
The body weights of the team will be added up and divided by the number lifting to arrive at an "average" body weight. This will be added to the total team body weight — once if the team is made up of 3 lifters, and twice if only 2 lifters turn up to compete.

Example: three people turn up to compete and they each weigh in at exactly 75kgs. Add up their body weights and divide by three to obtain average body weight, in this case 75kgs. Add this average of 75kgs to the total body weight of the team which will be 300kgs.
This is the only effective way the 2kgs per kg allowance can be calculated.
Teams from N.1. and Scotland will be allowed to compete in "postal rounds" to cut down on the expense of travel, and must observe the following rules:
The clubs competing against each other must lift on the same day.
There must be three referees present and they must sign the "match" protocol and also print their name clearly with the signature.
The original protocols will be sent to League Co-ordinator and the teams can exchange photocopies for checking the result of the match.
This is a genuine effort to resurrect the National League. Without the co-operation of all clubs it will fail.
The BWLA needs club secretaries to act now and enter their teams and submit their entry fees immediately.
A successful National League for 2010 will pave the way for the future and hopefully enable the BWLA to prepare to run an efficient National League.
The League belongs to clubs and club members — please give it your support.
