Dylan Scott

 World Youth Championships

Great Britain fielded a team of three lifters in the first World Youth Championships held in Chiang Mai, Thailand last week. The three lifters Dylan Scott, Zoe Smith and Dylan Scott all achieved personal bests and British records.

Dylan Scott (left) of the Kilwinning Club achieved three personal bests of snatch 84k, jerk 102 k to total 186 k for three new British and Scottish records.Zoe Smith

Zoe Smith (right) of the Europa Club, Erith, Kent achieved new personal bests of snatch 75k, jerk 95k and total 169 k to set new British U18, U17, Year 11 and Year 10 British records and English Joshua Farghalyrecords. Zoe placed eight overall.

Joshua Farghaly of West Wythenshaw achieved a personal best in the snatch of 110 k setting a new British record at U17 and Year 11. Unfortunately Josh was unable to his improve on his clean and jerk of 132 k because of the heat (and weight loss?), so settled for a total of 242 k.

Joanne CalvinoEleiko Womens Tournament

Great Britain and Crystal Palace were represeted by five lifters at the Eleiko Womens Tournament held in Lochen, Austria, last weekend. Joanne Calvino (pictured left) won first place in the 53 kilo category. Helen Jewell, Natasha Purdue and Michaela Breeze won second place in their respective classes. While our junior lifter Emily Godley lifted 70 k in the snatch, 86 k in the jerk to total 156 kgs for new British Junior records in the jerk and total.

All British and English records (except Masters) have been updated on the website. Ninty eight (98) new records have been set in 2009 so far. If you think the records are incorrect then please contact me at steve.cannon@bwla.co.uk.
