The U13 and U11 Development Cup is a demonstration activity of weightlifting. The competition is for participants in School Years 5, 6, 7 and 8 and has points awarded for technique and well as weight lifted.
All competitors will weigh in and three attempts on the snatch and the clean and jerk are performed. All successful attempts and the technique points awarded to each lift are added together to form the total.
Table 1 (below) shows the protocol for an U13 and U11 Development Cup competition. The winner of this demonstration weightlifting is lifter 8 who totals 463 kg. Under conventional rules of weightlifting lifter 6 would have totalled 136 kgs based upon his two best lifters compared to lifter 8 whose best two lifts totalled 135 kgs. But lifter 8 was successful in all six lifts and was judged to have good technique compared to lifter 6, and consequently had a superior total. It is therefore extremely important that coaches and lifters plan their strategy very carefully. The aim of this demonstration sport is safe, technically good weightlifting and the lifters are strongly encouraged to be successful with all six lifts.
There are no qualifying totals.
The lowest weight for the bar is 5 kg.
There is no minimum increase between attempts. Lifters may take the same weight.
The maximum increase between attempts will be 5.0 kgs.
Bodyweight categories are:
Boys: 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 56, 62, 62+ kg
Girls: 30, 35, 40, 44, 48, 53, 58, 58+ kg
Competitors must clearly understand that they are required to produce evidence of their date of birth at the event in which they are competing. This must be in the form of either their verified membership book (birth certificate or their passport).

In the above example the maximum points are 4 for the snatch and 4 for the clean and 4 for the jerk.
The points as you will see are doubled so as to give more focus on correct technique and not necessesarily the one who lifts the most.
The one who only gets two lifts comes last. This will encourage focus on correct weight selection by coaches.
The one who comes next to the last only gets 2 snatches and two clean and jerks.
The first second and third do very similar weights but the best technique wins with less weight.
Lifter 8 lifts the best weights with equal best technique so is the winner
The one with equal best technique actually does the least weight but gets second place. This favours the best technique!
